After the Expo: Where Everyone’s Dreaming of Next

There’s something special about being in a room full of people thinking about travel.

After an incredible Christchurch Travel Expo, one thing was clear - the desire to explore is alive and well. From big, once-in-a-lifetime journeys to simple, sun-soaked escapes, the conversations we had throughout the day were filled with excitement, curiosity, and plenty of “what ifs.”

And while every traveller’s plans looked a little different, a few standout themes emerged.

The Rise of the “Big Trip”

More than ever, people are thinking beyond the quick getaway.

We spoke to travellers planning bucket-list experiences they’ve been dreaming about for years. The kind of trips that stay with you long after you return home.

From the icy, untouched landscapes of Antarctica to the timeless beauty of Amalfi Coast, it’s clear that when people are travelling, they want it to mean something.

These aren’t just holidays - they’re experiences, milestones, and stories in the making.

Sun, Simplicity, and Easy Escapes

Of course, not every trip needs to be a major expedition.

There was just as much interest in destinations that offer warmth, ease, and that instant switch into holiday mode. The kind of places where everything feels simple, from the moment you land.

The South Pacific continues to be a favourite, with places like Fiji and Cook Islands high on the list for those looking to relax, recharge, and soak up some sunshine.

Travel That Feels Personal

One of the most interesting things we noticed? People are travelling more intentionally.

There’s a shift away from ticking boxes and towards choosing experiences that feel right for them - whether that’s slow travel, meaningful cultural experiences, or simply having the time and space to enjoy a destination properly.

No two conversations were the same, and that’s exactly what made the day so memorable.

The World Is Still Open And Worth Exploring

It’s impossible to talk about travel without acknowledging the last few years. Global events have changed how people think about getting away, and understandably so.

But one thing came through clearly at the expo: the world is still open, and people want to explore it.  What’s changed is how people want to travel.

There’s more value placed on having the right support, the right advice, and the reassurance that if something unexpected does happen - whether it’s a delay, a disruption, or something bigger - you’re not navigating it alone.

That’s where having someone in your corner can make all the difference. From helping adjust plans to finding solutions quickly, it allows you to travel with confidence, not uncertainty.

The Stories That Stay With You

Beyond the destinations, it was the stories that really stood out.

We heard about honeymoons years in the making, long-awaited family trips, solo adventures, and return visits to places that felt like a second home.

Travel means something different to everyone, and being part of those conversations is always a reminder of why it matters.

So… Where To Next?

If the expo showed us anything, it’s that there’s no one way to travel right now.

Whether you’re dreaming of something big, something warm, or something completely different, there’s a whole world of options waiting.

And if Sunday sparked an idea, or even just a “maybe one day”… it might be time to start turning that into a plan.
