Last year, while traveling as a family, we were lucky enough to squeeze in a stop at Hong Kong Disneyland, and it quickly became one of the highlights of our entire trip. It was just me, Jesse, and the kids—Paetyn (12), Sadie (6), and Rory (4)—and for all of them, it was their very first time experiencing the magic of Disneyland. Watching their faces light up in awe was unforgettable, and as parents, it made the day even more special for us too.
We visited in early October, and I have to say, it was the perfect time for our family. The weather was warm but not too hot, the park was buzzing with energy, and there was just enough excitement in the air without feeling totally overwhelmed. This was especially important when you’re juggling rides, snacks, and nap breaks with kids of different ages!
The moment we walked through the gates, the magic was palpable. The music, the vibrant colors, and even the characters casually strolling around the park—it all felt like stepping into another world. For Rory, meeting the Disney characters in person was an absolute highlight. I’ll never forget the sheer joy on her face, and honestly, it was one of those simple but totally unforgettable parenting moments.
When it came to the rides, each of the kids had their own favourites. For the thrill-seekers in the family, the Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars was definitely at the top of the list. But since Rory was a little too short to go on that one, our true all-around family favourite turned out to be Hyperspace Mountain. It’s the Star Wars-themed space ride, and it struck the perfect balance of fun and excitement—something all of us could enjoy together. There was just something extra special about sharing that experience.
One of the most magical moments of the day was the lunchtime Disney character parade. The girls were absolutely captivated. Sitting there together, watching all the beloved characters dancing by, with music playing and the kids waving like they were meeting their heroes—it was Disney magic at its purest, simplest form.
We made sure to stay until the evening to catch the famous castle fireworks and drone show, and wow, what an incredible finale to the day. The castle lit up in a dazzling display of lights, fireworks filled the sky, and the music was just beautiful. Watching it all unfold while our kids sat wide-eyed beside us, it felt like one of those rare moments where time stands still, and you realize just how lucky you are to be sharing something this special.
What Hong Kong Disneyland gave us wasn’t just a day of rides and photos—it gave us shared memories, belly laughs, and those tired-but-happy moments at the end of a long day. It gave us moments we’ll talk about for years to come. For a first Disneyland experience, it couldn’t have been more magical, and I know it’s a trip we’d love to do again someday.
